About the scientist:

Norman Borlaug was an American agricultural scientist and a  central figure in the “green revolution”, who lived from 1914-2009 and is known for his groundbreaking contributions to global food production. Borlaug's work focused on developing high-yield, disease-resistant crop varieties that could thrive in harsh environments and increase crop yields in developing countries. He is credited with saving millions of lives from starvation and malnutrition through his research on wheat production, which helped transform countries like India and Pakistan from food-deficit to food-surplus nations. In addition to his work on crop breeding, Borlaug also played a key role in establishing agricultural research centers in developing countries and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. His legacy as a pioneer in the field of agriculture continues to influence modern technology and research efforts to combat global hunger and food insecurity. Borlaug was awarded numerous honors for his contributions, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970, and is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of agriculture.
